Learn how to use the FaceTime app to visit face-to-face with friends and family—over Wi-Fi or cellular. In a FaceTime call, you can also watch TV shows and movies, listen to music, and even work out together.
Set up FaceTime
Go to the Settings app , tap Apps, then tap FaceTime. Make sure FaceTime is turned on, and sign in to your Apple Account if you want to use it with FaceTime (so you can move the call between your devices, for example). You can choose a default calling option for audio calls below Default Calling App. If more than one contact method appears below “You can be reached by FaceTime at,” tap to select or deselect it.
Make a FaceTime call
Open the FaceTime app, tap New Call, then enter the name, number, or email of the person (or people) you want to call. Tap FaceTime to make a video call or to make an audio call. In a Group FaceTime call, you can talk with up to 32 people.
If you want to call someone who doesn’t have an Apple device, you can create and send a link to the call in Messages or Mail. Open FaceTime, tap New Call, then tap .
Use the FaceTime controls
While on a FaceTime call, use the FaceTime controls to turn your camera or mic on or off, take a Live Photo, and more. If you don’t see the controls, tap your screen.
Switch a FaceTime call to another device
When you’re signed in to your Apple Account on multiple devices, you can start a FaceTime call on one of them, then move it to your iPhone. You can also move your call from your iPhone to another device. On the device you want to switch to, tap or at the top of the screen or the suggestion “Move call to this [device],” then tap Switch.
Leave a video message
If someone doesn’t answer your FaceTime video call, you can leave a video message. Tap Record Video, then record your message. When you’re finished recording, tap . Tap to send the video.

Scroll through the apps below Listen and Play Together, then select one (for example, Apple TV app, Music, or Fitness).

Set up FaceTime on iPhone
You can use the FaceTime app to stay connected with friends and family, whether they’re using an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or a Mac. With Spatial Audio in FaceTime (on supported models), people on the call sound like they’re in the room with you, talking from their positions on the screen. Spatial Audio works with the following AirPod models (sold separately)—AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro (all generations), and AirPods Max.
With SharePlay, you can watch movies and TV shows together, listen to music together, play supported multiplayer games in Game Center with friends, or participate in group activities during a FaceTime call. You can also share your screen and show apps, webpages, and more during the conversation—discuss a document, show a photo album, plan your next group vacation, or get feedback on something you’re working on—all while seeing and hearing the reactions of others on the call.
You can use the front camera to talk face-to-face, or switch to the rear camera to share what you see around you. To capture a moment of your conversation, take a FaceTime Live Photo.
Note: Not all features and content are available in all countries or regions.
Go to Settings > FaceTime, enter your Apple ID and password, then tap Sign In.
Note: If you don’t have an Apple ID, you can create one—see Manage Apple ID settings on iPhone.
Make sure FaceTime is turned on, then do any of the following:
View TV shows and movies together, listen to music together, or share your screen in calls: Tap SharePlay, then turn on SharePlay.
Highlight the speaker in calls: Turn on Speaking.
Display live captions in your calls: Turn on Live Captions (beta). (Let everyone on your calls know their speech is being transcribed on-device.)
Note: Live Captions is currently in beta.
Take Live Photos in FaceTime calls: Turn on FaceTime Live Photos.
Establish natural eye contact in FaceTime calls: Turn on Eye Contact.
iOS 15
